Uncut’s guide to the best of 2026’s Record Store Day releases

NEIL YOUNG & THE CHROME HEARTS
As Time Explodes
REPRISE/WARNER
Young has sadly been forced to cancel his upcoming European dates, but at least we’ve got this document of last year’s triumphant Love Earth tour, captured at various shows on both sides of the pond. The tracklist includes “Cortez The Killer”, “After The Gold Rush”, “Like A Hurricane” “Ohio” and “Vampire Blues”.

ROBERT PLANT & SAVING GRACE WITH SUZI DIAN
All That Glitters
WARNER
Although they only released their debut album in the autumn, Plant’s current combo have been playing together for seven years now, building up quite a repertoire of songs old and new. This EP contains four they recorded especially for Record Store Day, including Gillian Welch’s “Orphan Girl” and Bert Jansch’s “Poison”.

TALKING HEADS
The CBS/Columbia Demos
RHINO
Recently released on CD as part of the early-years round-up Tentative Decisions, this double LP marks the first official vinyl release of the demo sessions recorded by the original three-piece lineup of Talking Heads for CBS/Columbia in 1975. Includes “Psycho Killer”, “Warning Sign” and CBGB favourite “Sugar On My Tongue”.

TANYA DONELLY & CHRIS BROKAW
The Undone Is Done Again
FIRE
Belly frontwoman and Come guitarist join forces for an intriguing new venture, reinterpreting medieval madrigals through a modern lens. This four-track EP includes “In Hoc Anni Circulo”, the first song they performed together at a Christmas benefit show in 2024. The duo are also touring the project, with UK shows to be announced soon.

HELIOCENTRICS / MARSHALL ALLEN / KNOEL SCOTT / BILAL
Nuclear War
STRUT
Freshly pulled from the archives of Heliocentrics bandleader Malcolm Catto, this EP features unheard versions of four Sun Ra classics captured during rehearsals for Giles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards in 2015, where the Heliocentrics were joined by Arkestra mainstays Marshall Allen and Knoel Scott, as well as charismatic neo-soul singer Bilal.

SUEDE
Coming Up At The BBC
DEMON
One of two Suede RSD releases – the other being the demo version of last year’s Antidepressants – Coming Up At The BBC reconstructs Suede’s hit-packed 1996 album from sessions recorded for the Mark Radcliffe and Evening Session radio shows, along with a live version of “The Chemistry Between Us” from 1999’s Roskilde Festival.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & THE E STREET BAND
Live From Asbury Park 2024
LEGACY RECORDINGS
On September 15 2024, Springsteen and The E Street Band played an emotional homecoming show to 35,000 people on Asbury Park beach as part of the Sea.Here.Now festival. This 5-LP set captures the whole three-hour shebang – including, naturally, “Fourth of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)”, “Local Hero” and “Jersey Girl”.

SLINT
Untitled (Albini Rough Mixes)
TOUCH AND GO
Recorded by the late, great Steve Albini in 1989 – though not released until 1994, after the band had split up – Slint’s “Untitled” EP is a two-track tour de force of pummelling post-rock. These are the previously unreleased rough mixes that Albini gave to Touch And Go’s Corey Rusk, prompting him to sign the band and bankroll the seminal Spiderland.

JOHN LENNON
Love – Meditation Mixes
UMR/CALDERSTONE
Following 2024’s ‘Meditation Mixes’ of “Mind Games”, slowing, stretching and manipulating the song for maximum bliss-out potential, Sean Lennon performs a similar series of experiments on  his dad’s 1970 ballad, “Love”. Comes on iridescent ‘pearl arctic’ transparent vinyl in a triple gatefold lilac mirrorboard sleeve.

JONI MITCHELL
For The Roses
ASYLUM/WARNER

The original release of this 1972 album featured an uninspiring portrait of Joni looking glum by a lake, possibly because Asylum boss David Geffen rejected her own drawing of a horse’s backside. As a compromise it did adorn a billboard on Sunset Strip, but this RSD reissue finally restores Joni’s favoured artwork to the front of the LP.
