The legal spiral surrounding former Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert just took a far darker turn. According to the Baltimore Banner, Ebert was indicted last week by a Montgomery County grand jury on a charge of attempted first-degree murder. As previously reported, the allegations stem from a March 29 incident in Silver Spring, Md,, involving the family of Turnstile frontman Brendan Yates.
Ebert initially faced multiple charges, including attempted second-degree murder. The upgraded charge now puts him in a category of legal jeopardy that could carry a life sentence — an enormous leap from the prior maximum of 30 years.

Prosecutors allege that Ebert intentionally used his car to strike 79-year-old William Yates, Brendan Yates’ father, after a chaotic confrontation outside a residence on Timberlake Drive. According to police, Ebert drove through the neighborhood honking the horn of a 2001 Buick LeSabre before swerving toward William Yates, who attempted to avoid the vehicle. Authorities say the situation escalated when Yates threw a rock at the car — reportedly to warn nearby family members, including his daughter and young grandson.
What followed, per investigators, is the crux of the upgraded charge: Ebert allegedly reversed, then accelerated forward into the driveway, striking William Yates and causing severe injuries. Prosecutors described the damage in stark terms, noting trauma so extreme that a bone was exposed.
Ebert, 33, has maintained his innocence. In earlier court proceedings, he claimed the incident was “pure self-defense,” insisting that surveillance footage would ultimately clear him. His attorney, Andy Alpert, has not publicly responded to the latest indictment.
In addition to attempted first-degree murder, Ebert now faces attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault. He is being held without bail at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday (May 8) for a scheduling conference.
