MUNA balances loneliness and euphoria on “Dancing on the Wall,” the lead single and title track from its fourth studio album. The project will be released May 8 through Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory label through Secretly Group.
The Katie Gavin-led trio calls “Dancing on the Wall” “possibly our favorite song we’ve made as a band. We think it’s all the best parts of MUNA. It’s coming from a really emotional and lonely place, but the song itself makes us feel powerful and euphoric. It’s written in the moment that the clock strikes midnight at the ball, and you have to give up the fantasy. In this case, it’s the fantasy of loving someone or something that can’t love you back.”

The album was produced by MUNA member Naomi McPherson and is the follow-up to 2022’s MUNA, which went top 20 on both Billboard‘s Alternative and Indie charts. It featured contributions from Bridgers, Mitski, Leland, songwriters/producers Ian Fitchuk and Daniel Tashian and Joy Oladokun.
MUNA will introduce Dancing on the Wall through small club shows in Los Angeles, New York and London starting on the day of its release. “It’s a record that sits comfortably in tension, inviting listeners onto the dance floor while keeping its inner world deliberately unresolved,” the group says.
Here are MUNA’s tour dates:
May 8: Los Angeles (The Shrine)
May 16-18: Brooklyn, N.Y. (Music Hall of Williamsburg)
May 26-28: London (Heaven)
