Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien has announced that his second solo album Blue Morpho will be released by Transgressive on May 22.

Listen to the title track below:

The album was produced by Paul Epworth, with sequencing assistance from Flood. Musical contributors include Shabaka Hutchings (flutes) and Estonian composer Tõnu Kõrvits (string arrangements).

According to the accompanying press materials, Blue Morpho was inspired by the poetry of Wendell Berry, the breathing and cold-exposure teachings of Wim Hof, and the nature of the Welsh countryside.

Blue Morpho will be released on multiple formats, including a Metamorphosis Edition LP (orange vinyl) available at independent record shops and an Chrysalis Edition LP (cream vinyl) available exclusively from the official store – with a limited edition blue 7″ of the “Blue Morpho” single while stocks last. Pre-order here.

An accompanying short film, Blue Morpho: The Three Act Play, will be released alongside the album – watch a trailer for that below.
