Afghan Whigs are previewing their as-yet-unannounced new Royal Cream/BMG album with the single “House of I,” which is out now. It’s the Greg Dulli-led group’s first original music since the 2022 album How Do You Burn?
“House of I” was produced and mixed by Dulli and former Blind Melon member Christopher Thorn. It was tracked at Dulli’s New Orleans studio Marigny Sound, while additional touches were put to tape at Fireside Sound in Joshua Tree, Ca. “Laid this one down in New Orleans last summer,” Dulli says. “Was looking for an uptempo banger and feel like we found one here.”

The Whigs returned in December with covers of Minneapolis indie pop band Poliça’s “Fake Life” and U.K. duo Still Corners’ “Downtown,” neither of which will appear on the upcoming album.
As previously reported, the band begins a 40th anniversary tour April 25 in Bearsville, N.Y., with support from Mercury Rev.
