A series of releases have been announced to mark the 60th anniversary of The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds, including a zoetrope vinyl edition and a two-disc compilation of alternate takes, a cappellas and tracking sessions previously unreleased on vinyl.
A series of releases have been announced to mark the 60th anniversary of The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds, including a zoetrope vinyl edition and a two-disc compilation of alternate takes, a cappellas and tracking sessions previously unreleased on vinyl.
The Pet Sounds Sessions Highlights compiles material from the 1997 4CD box set, The Pet Sounds Sessions, which documented the legendary 1965–66 recording. It will be released in 2-CD and 2-LP formats (including white/green splatter vinyl) by Capitol/UMe on May 15 – pre-order here.
The full 90-track box set will be made available on streaming platforms from the same date.
As a taster, the group have today released the “Sloop John B” EP, featuring an a cappella version of the songs that isolates the vocal harmonies of Brian Wilson, Dennis Wilson, Carl Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine and Bruce Johnston, along with an alternative take featuring Carl in place of Brian on lead. The EP is capped off with the stereo mix. Listen below:
