Just A Gent Embraces Human Evolution With New Track, “Freak Of Nature”

There’s nothing graceful about Just A Gent‘s latest release, and that’s exactly the point. Out now via Rezz’s HypnoVizion label, “Freak Of Nature” crashes into the frame with unpredictably raw brush strokes of impulsive genius.

Australian producer Jacob Grant, better known as Just A Gent, embraces his most unruly instincts on this three-minute sound sculpture. Equal parts spasm and soliloquy, the track navigates constant sharp pivots with surgical precision. Glitch-heavy percussion interacts with theatrical builds, while warped melodies flare and disappear like dying stars. It defies any notion of simplicity or playing by the rules, a feeling that Grant created by design.

“’Freak Of Nature’ is a tune created while reflecting on how insane evolution is and how far we’ve come as a species,” Grant said in a press release shared with EDM.com. “We’re all freaks in one way or another and this is me expressing my weirder side.”

Grant affords listeners little downtime within the track, keeping the audience on their toes with ebbs and flows of incessantly experimental sound design. The pacing is pure midtempo menace, perfectly “Rezz-coded,” as Grant noted in a recent Instagram post. With his HypnoVizion debut, Just A Gent leverages a valuable opportunity to bare the inner workings of his personal and artistic creativity, and he did so in a way that will surely earn him a bevy of new fans.
