To celebrate “Boys Don’t Cry” becoming the first of their tracks to hit one billion streams on Spotify, The Cure will reissue the 1986 “Boys Don’t Cry” mix digitally and on CD through Fiction/Polydor on January 30.
Initially released as a standalone single in the summer of 1979, “Boys Don’t Cry” became the title track of the US edition of the band’s debut album, Three Imaginary Boys.
Robert Smith re-recorded the vocal and remixed the backing track in 1986 to promote the best-of collection Staring At The Sea – The Singles (although the LP itself featured the original recording).
For this reissue, “Boys Don’t Cry (New Voice – New Mix)” – now retitled “Boys Don’t Cry (86 Mix)” – has been remastered by Matt Colton, along with the 12” mix and original B-Sides, “Plastic Passion”, “Pillbox Tales” and “Do The Hansa”.
It’s the first time the 86 Mix has been available digitally. The EP will also be available on 7″ and 12″ from April 21. Pre-order here.
