With her first proper solo show under her belt following an April 18 appearance at Fingerprints in Long Beach, Ca., for Record Store Day, Violet Grohl is bolstering her schedule of concert commitments.
The 20-year-old artist will play three June club shows beginning June 4 at Baby’s All Right in New York before a June 24 opening slot back in the Big Apple for the Breeders. Four festival dates in the U.K., Ireland and Europe will follow in August, before Grohl’s previously announced appearances at Shaky Knees in Atlanta (Sept. 20) and the CBGB Festival in New York (Sept. 26).

With assistance from dummer Anthony Lopez, guitarist Salar Rajabnik and bassist Ainjil Emme, Grohl will be touring in support of her debut album for Auroura Records/Republic, Be Sweet to Me. The May 29 release includes latest single “Cool Buzz,” a Niki Milan Houston-directed video for which will be out May 1. The artist was in New York last week for an intimate album listening session at James Murphy’s Nightmoves club in Williamsburg, after which she mingled with label execs and journalists.
“We talked for a week or two at first just about music,” Grohl tells SPIN of her initial meeting with Raisen, who was recommended through Kim Gordon. “We eventually hung out in his home studio, which is where we recorded the album. We talked about our influences and who our idols are, what kind of music we’re into at the moment and what we want to make together. We spent six hours there, and the energy was so perfect. We were like, well, OK, let’s start next week. On the first day, we did [album opener] ‘THUM’”
Grohl acknowledges that performing in places like Washington, D.C., where her pre-fame dad Dave was a fixture onstage and off at rock clubs throughout the ‘80s, is a trippy, full-circle experience. “My dad’s childhood friends will get together when everyone’s in town,” she says. “Most people still live there, or they live out in Virginia. My dad still has his childhood home, so we usually stay there when we’re there, or at least go and visit it. It’s so magical. It really has that hometown feeling. Even though I didn’t grow up there, I grew up going there my whole life. It’s deep, deep roots.”
