\n\tThe second time proved to be the charm for Billy Idol<\/a> at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame<\/a> \u2014 and he couldn\u2019t be happier about it.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe veteran punk\/New Wave icon \u2013 who turned a sneer into a signature style and notched four top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including one chart-topper \u2014\u00a0 is one of eight acts to be inducted in the performers category at the Rock Hall\u2019s annual induction ceremony, taking place Nov. 14 in Los Angeles. Idol performed as part of Ozzy Osbourne\u2019s induction as a solo artist during the 2024 event in Cleveland and was nominated for the first time last year.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s really exciting,\u201d Idol tells Billboard<\/em> via Zoom from his home in Los Angeles. He and guitarist Steve Stevens, who will be inducted alongside Idol, performed \u201cRebel Yell\u201d as part of Monday (April 13) night\u2019s American Idol<\/em> episode that revealed the inductees. \u201cI can\u2019t believe it. It\u2019s incredible. It\u2019s just fantastic to think that something I was doing for the sheer love of the scene we were in back in the \u201870s, the punk rock scene. We were doing it for the love. We had no idea it was going to explode and lead to me doing this for 50 years. So it\u2019s all really incredible and something I just couldn\u2019t have imagined when I was starting out.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIdol, who learned of the induction a few days before the announcement, adds that he \u201cgot quite emotional just telling Steve Stevens a few minutes ago.\u201d And having to wait a year from his first nomination only makes getting in that much sweeter.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cCertainly being part of Ozzy\u2019s induction\u2026that really showed me what the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is about, really,\u201d he explains. \u201cIt\u2019s about other artists joining together, and you\u2019re getting respect from your peers, which is really pretty incredible. So many of my heroes, going back to the \u201850s \u2014 Bo Diddley and Elvis (Presley) and Buddy Holly, Little Richard, even Eddie Cochran\u2026. That\u2019s pretty incredible that other people think you should be in something like this.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s just been fantastic, being part of this musical revolution we really believed in and to be pushing the culture along. It\u2019s been really fun, and a dream come true. And then this is just icing on the cake, just \u2026 wow, what an honor! I almost can\u2019t put it into words. To be able to have your peers vote you in and that, it\u2019s pretty special.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIdol received 601,000 votes on this year\u2019s Rock Hall fan ballot, more than twice as many as he got in 2025. \u201cThat\u2019s the other thing,\u201d he notes. \u201cYou get a chance to really thank your fans in person. That\u2019s really special. They helped to put you where you are, stuck with you through thick and thin. Just to get a chance to really thank them is a fantastic moment. I\u2019m looking forward to it, really.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIdol hasn\u2019t given much thought yet to what November ceremony will entail but says \u201cwe\u2019re in a really good place to perform\u201d there. He was on the road last year to support his 2025 album Dream Into It<\/em> and will head out again in July, with U.S. dates running into late September as well as a five-night residency at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas starting Aug. 28. The documentary film Billy Idol Should Be Dead<\/em>, meanwhile, is streaming on Hulu.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe\u2019re on a roll now,\u201d he says, \u201cmy band and I and Steve, so I know we\u2019re gonna bring it, bring out the whole thing \u2014 the whole attitude and everything. It\u2019s a perfect moment for us to be inducted. We are still at the top of my game.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition, Idol says he\u2019s planning to start working on his next album in June, hoping for release in 2027 but acknowledging that \u201cyou never really know how long it\u2019s gonna take you before you start.\u201d Nevertheless, Idol adds that \u201cthere\u2019s a bit of a direction we might go in. The last album was very rock \u2018n\u2019 roll; I think we\u2019re going to put an element of dance back into this next album. But you never know where it\u2019s going. You plan, but there\u2019s a lot of things you just have to find out when you\u2019re doing it and start seeing songs and see what you have.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
