According to police, Ebert drove through the neighborhood honking the horn of a 2001 Buick LeSabre before swerving toward William Yates, who attempted to avoid the vehicle. Authorities say the situation escalated when Yates threw a rock at the car \u2014 reportedly to warn nearby family members, including his daughter and young grandson.<\/p>\n<p>What followed, per investigators, is the crux of the upgraded charge: Ebert allegedly reversed, then accelerated forward into the driveway, striking William Yates and causing severe injuries. Prosecutors described the damage in stark terms, noting trauma so extreme that a bone was exposed.<\/p>\n<p>Ebert, 33, has maintained his innocence. In earlier court proceedings, he claimed the incident was \u201cpure self-defense,\u201d insisting that surveillance footage would ultimately clear him. His attorney, Andy Alpert, has not publicly responded to the latest indictment.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to attempted first-degree murder, Ebert now faces attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault.
