\n\tD\u2019Angelo<\/a> has dropped out of the 2025 Roots Picnic in Philadelphia, citing medical complications related to a previous surgery.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Friday (May 23), the iconic R&B artist announced through social media that he will no longer headline the Roots Picnic, scheduled for May 31 and June 1 at Philly\u2019s The Mann in Fairmount Park. The decision was made following medical advice related to an \u201cunforeseen\u201d delay in his surgical recovery.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt is with the deepest of regrets that [I] must cancel my performance at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia next weekend,\u201d D\u2019Angelo wrote in a statement shared through the Roots Picnic\u2019s Instagram<\/a> page. \u201cBut, due to an unforeseen medical delay regarding surgery [I] had earlier this year, [I\u2019ve] been advised by my team of specialists that the performance this weekend could further complicate matters.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe festival added its support in the post\u2019s caption. \u201cDue to a longer-than-expected surgical recovery, @thedangelo won\u2019t be able to join us at Roots Picnic this year. We\u2019re sending love and keeping him in our thoughts as he continues to heal!\u201d organizers wrote.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 17th annual Roots Picnic will still go forward with a stacked lineup<\/a> including headliners Meek Mill and Lenny Kravitz. Other performers include GloRilla, Miguel, Tems, Latto, Kaytranada, and Jeezy.<\/p>\n

\n\tD\u2019Angelo was originally slated to perform alongside festival curators The Roots<\/a>. Stepping in as his replacement is fellow neo-soul icon Maxwell, the festival announced<\/a> Friday on Instagram.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt is nearly impossible to express how disappointed [I am] not to be able to play with my Brothers \u2018The Roots,\u2019\u201d D\u2019Angelo added. \u201cAnd even more disappointed to not see all of You.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThe singer closed the message by thanking fans for their continued support, hinting at new music on the horizon. [I\u2019m] currently in the Lab & can\u2019t wait to serve Up what\u2019s in the Pot!\u201d he wrote. \u201cLOVE U All and will see you very soon!\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

\n\tD\u2019Angelo last performed at the Roots Picnic in 2016, during the festival\u2019s first-ever New York City edition. The appearance followed the release of his acclaimed third album, Black Messiah<\/em>, which reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200 in January 2015.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
