\n\tAddison Rae<\/a> is on the verge of pop superstardom, but there was once a time when she was a rising TikTok star and a college student looking to get by.<\/p>\n

\n\tRae joined The New York Times<\/em>\u2018 Popcast<\/a> on Friday (May 30), where she reflected on her time at Louisiana State when she was getting paid $20 via PayPal by record labels to post videos dancing to their artists\u2019 songs on TikTok.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI actually remember getting little brand deals from labels paying me to post when I was in college,\u201d the 24-year-old began. \u201cThey jumped on that really fast. I was like, \u2018Oh, this is really interesting\u2019 \u2014 that the music industry was really leaning on it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThis appears to be circa 2019, when the platform was beginning to boom and before Rae dropped out of college. Co-host Jon Caramanica threw out a potential fee of \u201chundreds of dollars,\u201d but Rae revealed it was actually much lower. \u201cA hundred bucks?! I wish, it was probably like $20. I actually remember being like, \u2018Holy sh\u2013, $20!’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tRae confirmed the payments were made via PayPal. \u201cIt was actually really sketch,\u201d she admitted. \u201cI was like: \u2018Did the $20 hit the PayPal yet?!’\u201d<\/p>\n
