Since stepping back into office earlier this year, the president has intensified efforts to combat alleged immigration violations, prompting protests in Los Angeles and across the country in response to raids by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIt means living in constant fear,\u201d Shakira told the BBC when asked what it\u2019s like to be an immigrant in the U.S. today. \u201cAnd it\u2019s painful to see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tShe added, \u201cNow, more than ever, we have to remain united. Now, more than ever, we have to raise our voices and make it very clear that a country can change its immigration policies, but the treatment of all people must always be humane.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn early February, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/awards\/shakira-grammy-best-latin-pop-album-2025-1235890636\/\">accepting the Grammy Award<\/a> for best Latin pop album for 2024\u2019s <em>Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran<\/em>, Shakira dedicated the honor to \u201call my immigrant brothers and sisters in this country,\u201d adding, \u201cYou\u2019re loved, worth it and I will always fight with you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tShakira is among a growing number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/music-news\/tyler-the-creator-kehlani-ice-los-angeles-protests-1235993786\/\">musicians speaking out against<\/a> federal immigration raids in Southern California. Following President Trump\u2019s early June deployment of National Guard troops to L.A., artists including Olivia Rodrigo, Tyler, The Creator, Finneas, The Game, Green Day\u2019s Billie Joe Armstrong, Kehlani, Tom Morello, Rene\u00e9 Rapp and Rebecca Black have publicly condemned the administration\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve lived in LA my whole life and I\u2019m deeply upset about these violent deportations of my neighbors under the current administration,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/music-news\/olivia-rodrigo-ice-protests-los-angeles-reaction-1235999714\/\">Rodrigo wrote<\/a> on her Instagram Story on Saturday (June 14). \u201cLA simply wouldn\u2019t exist without immigrants. Treating hardworking community members with such little respect, empathy, and due process is awful. I stand with the beautiful, diverse community of Los Angeles and with immigrants all across America.
