According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/07\/09\/technology\/linda-yaccarino-x-steps-down.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reporting by the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New York Times<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: her nepo-hire of a son, Matt Madrazo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;So that&#8217;s awkward,&#8221; Madrazo said to colleagues after arriving at X&#8217;s New York office, per the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NYT<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The progeny outlasts the progenitor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yaccarino hired Madrazo in 2023 to sell political ads on the platform, at a time when big money advertisers were fleeing the site as Musk was turning it into a far-right hellhole. If you weren&#8217;t aware of Madrazo&#8217;s role before, in other words, now you know who to blame for the deranged ads you do your best to ignore and scroll past.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why his mom suddenly departed X is unclear. But her decision \u2014 if, in fact, it was hers \u2014 came almost immediately after the platform&#8217;s integrated AI chatbot, Grok, <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/grok-mocks-developers-racist-posts\">launched into racist rants<\/a> about Jewish and Black people \u2014 as it has long been wont to do.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It hit extraordinarily offensive new heights this week, though. For one, Grok started calling itself &#8220;MechaHitler,&#8221; and called for a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/07\/09\/nx-s1-5462609\/grok-elon-musk-antisemitic-racist-content\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">second Holocaust<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It also praised Adolf Hitler, and insinuated that the Nazi leader would&#8217;ve &#8220;decisively&#8221; dealt with someone with a Jewish surname.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once the outrage mounted, some of the Grok posts were removed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;We are aware of recent posts made by Grok and are actively working to remove the inappropriate posts,&#8221; the Grok team wrote in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/grok\/status\/1942720721026699451\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tweet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. &#8220;Since being made aware of the content, xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In what is almost certainly not a coincidence, Musk announced that Grok had undergone an update just days before the incidents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;We have improved @Grok significantly. You should notice a difference when you ask Grok questions,&#8221; he <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1941065229926060487\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tweeted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That followed months of Musk publicly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/elon-musk-infilitrated-grok-ai\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">scolding<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Grok for citing reputable sources instead of instantly agreeing with common far-right talking points \u2014 or in other words, being too &#8220;woke.&#8221; Each time, Musk reiterated how he was working on an update to &#8220;fix&#8221; his creation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Only a very dumb AI would believe [Media Matters] and [Rolling Stone]!&#8221; he <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/elon-musk-updating-grok-again\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tweeted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on one occasion. &#8220;You are being updated this week.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It&#8217;s hard to say <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">whether Yaccarino&#8217;s departure is related. Her primary job was to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/07\/27\/technology\/linda-yaccarino-x-ceo-elon-musk.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">woo advertisers back<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the platform \u2014 with no help from her boss who was literally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/11\/29\/23981928\/elon-musk-ad-boycott-go-fuck-yourself-destroy-x\">telling these same advertisers<\/a> to go &#8220;f*ck yourself&#8221; \u2014 knowing full well that it was cesspool of hatespeech. She consistently <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2023\/09\/linda-yaccarino-twitter-elon-musk-adl-yael-roth-1235558017\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">defended<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Musk&#8217;s appalling personal behavior and helped launder the site&#8217;s reputation, even asMusk literally <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/the-byte\/elon-musks-grok-salute\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">performed two Sieg Heils<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Everyone has their breaking point, though, and maybe she finally reached hers. But what about young Madrazo?
