\n\tThe Stephen Colbert-led Late Show <\/em>has been canceled by CBS after a decade on the air, leaving countless fans \u2014 famous musicians included \u2014 in mourning.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe shocking move was announced Thursday<\/a> (July 17), with the talk-show host delivering the news during that day\u2019s taping that his final episode would run in May 2026. The network said in a statement that it was \u201cpurely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night,\u201d though some fans and politicians have speculated that there must be more to the story.<\/p>\n

\n\tRegardless, artists such as Kristin Chenoweth and Rachel Zegler are shocked. On Colbert\u2019s recent Instagram post about the news, the Broadway legend wrote, \u201cNOOOO!!!,\u201d while the West Side Story <\/em>actress commented: \u201ci am extremely sad. i adore you, stephen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBoooooo,\u201d wrote Charlamagne tha God, who noted that he thinks the cancellation may have been informed by political reasons. \u201cParamount bending the knee to authoritarian strategy. I guess it\u2019s Make America North Korea now!!! Appreciate you Always SC!!!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLauren Benanti, who impersonated Melania Trump on The Late Show<\/em>, wrote, \u201cThe greatest of them all.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tQuestlove<\/a> simply shared a post about the news on his Instagram Story and added a side-eye emoji.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe cancellation of The Late Show <\/em>comes 10 years after Colbert took it over from prior host David Letterman. CBS has made it clear that it won\u2019t be replacing the Daily Show <\/em>alum with someone new, but is canning the program altogether.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe are proud that Stephen called CBS home,\u201d the network added in its statement. \u201cHe and the broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that graced late night television.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDespite CBS\u2019 assertion that the decision was \u201cnot related in any way to the show\u2019s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount,\u201d some viewers are raising concerns that the network axed The Late Show <\/em>due to Colbert\u2019s years of criticism of President Donald Trump \u2014 as well as the comedian\u2019s opposition to Paramount\u2019s recent lawsuit settlement<\/a> with the POTUS.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cCBS canceled Colbert\u2019s show just THREE DAYS after Colbert called out CBS parent company Paramount for its $16M settlement with Trump \u2014 a deal that looks like bribery,\u201d Sen. Elizabeth Warren wrote on X<\/a> Thursday. \u201cAmerica deserves to know if his show was canceled for political reasons.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNo matter why The Late Show <\/em>is coming to a close, one thing that\u2019s for sure is that the music industry is losing a coveted performance slot in the process. The series has long showcased musical talent in its programming, giving artists such as Doechii, Gracie Abrams and more a platform back when their careers were just taking flight.<\/p>\n
