The follow-up to her 2022 album <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uncut.co.uk\/reviews\/album\/joan-shelley-the-spur-139048\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>The Spur<\/strong><\/a>, it\u2019s released on September 19 by No Quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Shelley has also shared \u201c<strong>Everybody<\/strong>\u201d from the album, which you can hear below.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"bGPN3f7n2rA\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Everybody\" width=\"696\" height=\"522\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bGPN3f7n2rA?feature=oembed&amp;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p><strong>Real Warmth<\/strong> was produced at Casa Wroxton in Toronto by <strong>Ben <strong>Whiteley<\/strong><\/strong> \u2013 bassist for <strong>The Weather Station <\/strong>and <strong>Jake Xerxes Fussell<\/strong> \u2013 and features drummer <strong>Philippe Melanson<\/strong>, saxophonist <strong>Karen Ng<\/strong>, singer\/songwriters <strong>Doug Paisley<\/strong> and <strong>Tamara Lindeman<\/strong>, <strong>Matt Kelley<\/strong> and <strong>Ken Whiteley<\/strong>. Shelley\u2019s partner, guitarist <strong>Nathan Salsburg<\/strong>, also appears.<\/p>\n<p>Says Wheatley, \u201cWe had a few windows in mid-winter and it really felt like there was an urgency to capture a moment in time with these songs, performances, people involved, and against the political backdrop. The record really feels like a capture instead of a meticulous construction. Part of Joan\u2019s concept was not only to go to a place but to draw on the community of musicians from that place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Offering three mutually inclusive readings of the album\u2019s title, Shelley says:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe warmth of actual bodies: connection and belonging as opposed to the facades we show each other, in person and also in the lifeless online world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA spiritual, humane warmth as opposed to performative or superficial kindness where love only applies to one\u2019s own group, but will permit incredible suffering for another.\u00a0How massive an effort it is to still love people at this time, in this place.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe real warmth of the planet and the urgency of our moment.
