David Bowie in the new Uncut<\/h2>\n

David Bowie<\/strong><\/a> is on the cover of the October 2025<\/a><\/strong> issue of Uncut<\/strong>. The issue comes wrapped with a giant Map Of Bowie\u2019s America and a stunning Collectors\u2019 Cover.<\/p>\n

For the cover story, meanwhile, Bowie\u2019s long-serving producer Tony Visconti<\/strong> reveals all about the making of Heathen<\/strong> \u2013 Bowie\u2019s first album of the 21st century and one critical in establishing working practices that continued for the rest of his career.<\/p>\n

Among the many stories and insights, Visconti reveals that Prince<\/strong> was approached to play on Heathen. Here\u2019s what happened\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was talk of getting Prince on the record\u2026\u201d<\/h2>\n

\u201cPete Townshend<\/strong> came to the studio to record his part for \u2018Slow Burn\u2019 at Philip Glass<\/strong>\u2019s studio in New York,\u201d Visconti tells us.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn fact, Philip played a little bit on the album as well, he added a bit of piano but not a lot; he\u2019s not a Rachmaninoff<\/strong> sort of guy. Pete added some windmill chords. We had the track \u20185.15 The Angels Have Gone<\/strong>\u2019. I don\u2019t know if that was a homage to The Who<\/strong>, but I played guitar on that and also doubled my bass part.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know there was talk of getting Prince<\/strong> on the record, but negotiations broke down.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou had to call Paisley Park<\/strong> and hope somebody answered because Prince had banned outgoing international calls to save money. Nobody ever answered.<\/p>\n

\u201cDavid did have a meeting with Prince once. They were in a studio or maybe at an awards ceremony. <\/p>\n

\u201cDavid was told, \u2018Prince would like to meet you.\u2019 David said OK and was taken to another room. It was a very dark room, that was more like a hallway and at top of the steps was this huge bodyguard, about seven feet tall and all muscle.<\/p>\n

\u201cDavid apologised, thinking he was in the wrong place, then behind this man a little head popped out and said, \u2018Hello, David!\u2019 It was Prince!\u201d<\/p>\n

Heathen is released as part of the box set I Can\u2019t Give Everything Away, 2002\u20132016 is released on September 12 by Parlophone.<\/strong><\/p>\n
