Please stop trying to be lazy and have AI try to do YOUR JOB!!! It gave me the creeps so bad <a title=\"fyp\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/tag\/fyp?refer=embed\">#fyp<\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"\u266c original sound - Its Ken \ud83e\udd0d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/music\/original-sound-7499859603190975278?refer=embed\">\u266c original sound &#8211; Its Ken <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/15.0.3\/72x72\/1f90d.png\" alt=\"\ud83e\udd0d\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em; max-height: 1em;\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The incident \u2014 and the way it affected the young woman who endured it \u2014 is a startling example not only of where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/05\/02\/nx-s1-5383289\/jobs-employment-labor-economy-recession-tariffs\">America&#8217;s abysmal labor market<\/a> is at, but also of how ill-conceived this sort of AI &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/pro\/over-half-of-uk-businesses-who-replaced-workers-with-ai-regret-their-decision\">outsourcing<\/a>&#8221; has become.<\/p>\n<p>Though she looks nonplussed on her interview screen, the TikToker who goes by Ken <a href=\"https:\/\/www.404media.co\/ai-recruiter-apriora-tiktok\/\">told\u00a0<em>404 Media<\/em><\/a> that she was pretty perturbed by the incident, which occurred during her first (and only) interview with a Stretch Lab fitness studio in Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I thought it was really creepy and I was freaked out,&#8221; the college-aged creator told the website. &#8220;I was very shocked, I didn\u2019t do anything to make it glitch so this was very surprising.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As\u00a0<em>404\u00a0<\/em>discovered, the glitchy recruiter-bot was hosted by a Y Combinator-backed startup called Apriora, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apriora.ai\/book-a-demo\">claims<\/a> to help companies &#8220;hire 87 percent faster&#8221; and &#8220;interview 93 percent cheaper&#8221; because multiple candidates can be interviewed simultaneously.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/jackkelly\/2024\/05\/10\/your-next-job-interview-may-be-with-alex-the-ai-interviewer\/?sh=3a44b4d976f2&amp;ref=404media.co\">2024 interview with\u00a0<em>Forbes<\/em><\/a>, Apriora cofounder Aaron Wang attested that job-seekers &#8220;prefer interviewing with AI in many cases, since knowing the interviewer is AI helps to reduce interviewing anxiety, allowing job seekers to perform at their best.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s definitely not the case for Ken, who said she would &#8220;never go through this process again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If another company wants me to talk to AI,&#8221; she told\u00a0<em>404,<\/em> &#8220;I will just decline.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Commenters on her now-viral TikTok seem to agree as well.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is the rudest thing a company could ever do,&#8221; one user wrote. &#8220;We need to start withdrawing applications folks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Others still pointed out the elephant in the room: that recruiting used to be a skilled trade done by human workers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Lazy, greedy and arrogant,&#8221; another person commented. &#8220;AI interviews just show me they don&#8217;t care about workers from the get go.
