** Rancid<\/strong>, Pennywise<\/strong>, Lagwagon<\/strong>, GBH<\/strong>, the Bronx<\/strong> and FEAR<\/strong> are among the acolytes contributing covers to the album Killed by Deaf \u2013 A Punk Tribute to Mot\u00f6rhead<\/a><\/em>, which will be released Oct. 31 through BMG Recordings. The first single is a previously unreleased 2002 collaboration between Mot\u00f6rhead<\/strong> and the Damned<\/strong> on the latter\u2019s \u201cNeat Neat Neat\u201d and can be sampled below. \u201cThe punks loved us. The only reason we weren\u2019t in that lot was because we had long hair, so obviously we must be heavy metal,\u201d late Mot\u00f6rhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister<\/strong> once said. \u201cThat was the thinking. But a lot of kids heard us without seeing a picture, so they thought we were a punk band.\u201d<\/p>\n

** * Chicago instrumental titans\u00a0Tortoise<\/strong>\u00a0will return on Oct. 24 with Touch<\/em>, their first new album since 2016\u2019s\u00a0The Catastrophist<\/em> and their debut for International Anthem\/Nonesuch after more than 30 years on hometown indie label Thrill Jockey. Lead track \u201cLayered Presence\u201d is out now in tandem with a video directed by Mikel Patrick Avery<\/strong>. The group begins a short tour Oct. 18 at the Broad in Los Angeles and will also play a special Nov. 11 show with the\u00a0Chicago Philharmonic<\/strong>\u00a0at the city\u2019s the Auditorium. At the latter, Tortoise will debut material from Touch<\/em> while backed by a live orchestra for the first time. This spring, the group released the new single \u201cOganesson\u201d and a subsequent remix EP with contributions from\u00a0Broken Social Scene<\/strong>,\u00a0Saul Williams<\/strong>,\u00a0Makaya McCraven<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Heba Kadry<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
