The confrontational cut is the first to be released on their own label, Psychic Hotline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we prepare to release new music, we have to decide what we want to be a part of and what we don\u2019t,\u201d Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn said in a statement. \u201cTo that end, with Sylvan Esso being on our own label for the first time, we have decided to remove our music from Spotify. The latter was \u201cbuilt from a week of improvisation\u201d with bassist Daniel Aged and drummer TJ Maiani.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<lite-youtube videoid=\"twtmK1U-d4c\" style=\"bottom: 0; height: 100%; left: 0; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; width: 100%; max-width:100%;\"><\/lite-youtube>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s still kind of in zygote form,\u201d Meath jokes with SPIN when asked how far along the new album is. \u201cWe\u2019re doing a new thing where, instead of every other Sylvan Esso record where we\u2019ve written 10 songs and those are the ones we\u2019re recording, this time we\u2019re writing a lot of them. We have about 30 or 40 ideas and we\u2019re going to slowly work our way into finding 10 of them that we want to be on the record, which is so fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Quizzed on the sound of the fresh material, Meath says, \u201cwe\u2019ve been really delving into late \u201990s breakbeat\u00a0music. Lots of Boards of Canada, Beck\u2019s <em>Odelay<\/em> and Madonna\u2019s <em>Ray of Light<\/em>. A huge influence for me is Soul Coughing, who are wizards of sampling.
