Zelda Williams, daughter of the late Hollywood comedy icon Robin Williams, has had enough of people sending her AI slop videos of her father.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad,\u201d the director wrote<\/a> in a Stories post on Instagram. \u201cStop believing I wanna see it or that I\u2019ll understand, I don\u2019t and I won\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re just trying to troll me, I\u2019ve seen way worse, I\u2019ll restrict and move on,\u201d she added. \u201cBut please, if you\u2019ve got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone, even, full stop.\u201d<\/p>\n

Williams\u2019 comments come a week after ChatGPT maker OpenAI launched Sora 2<\/a>, a TikTok-like text-to-video generating app that serves up AI slop to the masses.<\/p>\n

Users got to work, immediately generating photorealistic videos of deceased celebrities<\/a>, including pop icon Michael Jackson, cosmologist Stephen Hawking, and painter Bob Ross.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Whether dead celebs are fair game on Sora 2 remains unclear. OpenAI promised <\/strong>to <\/strong>\u201cblock depictions of public figures\u201d in its user policy<\/a>. However, a spokesperson\u00a0told\u00a0PCMag<\/em><\/a>\u00a0that it does \u201callow the generation of historical figures.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTo watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to \u2018this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that\u2019s enough,\u2019 just so other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening,\u201d Williams wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re not making art, you\u2019re making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else\u2019s throat hoping they\u2019ll give you a little thumbs up and like it,\u201d she added. \u201cGross.\u201d<\/p>\n

Williams\u2019 comments highlight growing disillusionment<\/a> at companies shoving AI into every aspect of users\u2019 lives. Particularly when it comes to the substitution of human creativity, critics have balked at the emergence of entire social media apps dedicated to pumping out slop, like Sora 2, Meta\u2019s Vibes, and YouTube, which has encouraged users to AI-generate short-form videos<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAI is just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be reconsumed,\u201d Williams wrote. \u201cYou are taking in the Human Centipede of content, and from the very, very end of the line, all while the folks at the front laugh and laugh, consume and consume.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not the first time Williams has spoken out against the use of AI in creative fields. In 2023, she spoke out in support of striking Hollywood actors<\/a>, who were fighting for protections against AI.<\/p>\n

At the time, tech to recreate an actor\u2019s voice was hitting its stride, triggering a fiery debate<\/a> surrounding an artist\u2019s ownership over their own voice.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am not an impartial voice in [the Screen Actors\u2019 Guild\u2019s] fight against AI,\u201d she wrote at the time. \u201cI\u2019ve witnessed for YEARS how many people want to train these models to create\/recreate actors who cannot consent, like Dad.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t theoretical, it is very, very real,\u201d she added. \u201cI\u2019ve already heard AI used to get his \u2018voice\u2019 to say whatever people want and while I find it personally disturbing, the ramifications go far beyond my own feelings.\u201d<\/p>\n

Williams isn\u2019t <\/strong>the first to protest her parents\u2019 legacy being turned into slop. Last year, Kelly Carlin, the daughter of late comedian George Carlin, similarly took aim at the tech.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy dad spent a lifetime perfecting his craft from his very human life, brain and imagination,\u201d she tweeted<\/a> at the time, responding to the announcement of an hour-long comedy special that featured an AI version<\/a> of her father\u2019s voice. <\/p>\n

\u201cNo machine will ever replace his genius,\u201d she wrote. \u201cThese AI-generated products are clever attempts at trying to recreate a mind that will never exist again.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s let the artist\u2019s work speak for itself,\u201d she added<\/a>. \u201cHere\u2019s an idea, how about we give some actual living human comedians a listen to?\u201d<\/p>\n
