{"id":6432,"date":"2025-11-03T22:13:12","date_gmt":"2025-11-03T22:13:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/musictechohio.online\/site\/sam-altman-loses-cool-revenue\/"},"modified":"2025-11-03T22:13:12","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T22:13:12","slug":"sam-altman-loses-cool-revenue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/musictechohio.online\/site\/sam-altman-loses-cool-revenue\/","title":{"rendered":"Sam Altman Loses His Cool When Asked About OpenAI\u2019s Minuscule Revenue"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">OpenAI is planning to spend an <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/openai-trouble-subprime\">exorbitant amount of money<\/a> building out AI infrastructure, as it continues trying to achieve artificial general intelligence through sheer computational scale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">That\u2019s despite its revenue lagging far behind its enormous spending spree, with recently released Microsoft earnings suggesting that the Sam Altman-led company <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/artificial-intelligence\/openai-money-lost-quarter\">lost a whopping $11.5 billion last quarter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">Even its blockbuster AI chatbot ChatGPT, which accounts for the majority of the company\u2019s revenue, appears to be <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/artificial-intelligence\/chatgpt-stalling-new-subscribers\">stalling out on new subscribers<\/a>. OpenAI is <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/artificial-intelligence\/openai-percent-chatgpt-users-pay\">struggling to convince more than a measly five percent<\/a> of its 800 million active ChatGPT users to pay for a subscription.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">During a recent interview with podcaster and OpenAI investor Brad Gerstner, Altman lost his cool when he was asked outright how it all adds up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cHow can a company with $13 billion in revenues make $1.4 trillion of spend commitments?\u201d Gerstner asked him. \u201cYou\u2019ve heard the criticism, Sam.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cIf you want to sell your shares, I\u2019ll find you a buyer,\u201d a taken-aback Altman replied curtly. \u201cEnough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">Surprised by the confrontation, Gerstner let out a laugh in response.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cI think there\u2019s a lot of people who talk with a lot of breathless concern about our compute stuff or whatever that would be thrilled to buy shares,\u201d Altman said, digging in his heels. \u201cWe could sell your shares or anybody else\u2019s to some of the people who are making the most noise on Twitter about this very quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"lazy-twitter-tweet\" data-tweet-id=\"1984619454047625659\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\" lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Apparently, if you ask <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sama?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@sama<\/a> how his $13 billion money-losing for profit not-for-profit can support $1.4 TRILLION of spend commitments, he gets very defensive and starts to attack non-existent short sellers.<\/p>\n<p>I cannot wait for <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OpenAI?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@OpenAI<\/a> to be a public company. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DTPVJJf86x\">pic.twitter.com\/DTPVJJf86x<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Compound248 <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/16.0.1\/72x72\/1f4b0.png\" alt=\"\ud83d\udcb0\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em;max-height: 1em\"> (@compound248) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/compound248\/status\/1984619454047625659?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 1, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">The testy exchange, which <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/stillgray\/status\/1985049826346840527\" rel=\"nofollow\">made the rounds on social media<\/a>, highlights rapidly growing concerns of an AI bubble, with companies increasingly struggling to assure investors that they\u2019ll see returns on their investments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">Even Altman himself <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/sam-altman-admits-ai-bubble\">admitted in an interview with reporters in August<\/a> that we are in a \u201cphase where investors as a whole are overexcited about AI,\u201d which could lead to \u201csomeone\u201d losing a \u201cphenomenal amount of money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">The stakes are enormous. OpenAI is now understood to be the <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/openai-tops-spacex-world-most-213825041.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">most valuable private company<\/a> on Earth, despite bleeding billions of dollars, with Bernstein Research analyst\u00a0Stacy Rasgon arguing in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfweekly.com\/news\/national\/openai-big-chip-orders-dwarf-its-revenues----for-now\/article_4c02539b-0570-559b-9355-7d2472a3fdf8.html\" rel=\"nofollow\">recent note to investors<\/a> that Altman \u201chas the power to crash the global economy for a decade or take us all to the promised land.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">Altman\u2019s short-tempered answer also highlights how he has seemingly grown tired of justifying OpenAI\u2019s enormous spending.
