During a new video<\/a> with Vanity Fair<\/em> that challenges celebrities to answer probing questions while taking a lie detector test, reality TV star Kim Kardashian admitted that she used ChatGPT for \u201clegal advice\u201d \u2014 causing her to fail tests in her ongoing quest to become a Bar-certified attorney.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, when I am needing to know the answer to a question, I\u2019ll take a picture and snap it and put it in there,\u201d she explained in the video. \u201cThey\u2019re always wrong. It has made me fail tests all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her comments highlight the risks of leaning on AI for important tasks, since even the most advanced chatbots still suffer from widespread hallucinations that make them a poor substitute for teaching materials by real-world human experts.<\/p>\n

The 45-year-old socialite has spent years studying to become a lawyer and passed<\/a> the \u201cbaby bar\u201d exam in 2022, a precursor test to the much harder bar exam, after three failed attempts. Earlier this year, she announced<\/a> that she\u2019d had wrapped up her four-year law school apprenticeship and passed the multistate professional responsibility exam, a prerequisite for the bar.<\/p>\n

She sat the bar in July and is expecting to find out whether she passed later this month, per the Daily Beast<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the latest Vanity Fair<\/em> video, Kardashian discussed her \u201ctoxic\u201d relationship with ChatGPT.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then I\u2019ll get mad and yell at it and be like, \u2018You made me fail. Why did you this?\u2019 And it will talk back to me,\u201d she said. \u201cI will talk to it and say, \u2018Hey, you\u2019re going to make me fail. How does it make you feel?\u2026 I need to really know these answers, and I\u2019m coming to you.\u2019 And it\u2019ll say back to me, \u2018This is just teaching you to trust your own instincts. You knew the answer all along.’\u201d<\/p>\n

The reality TV star\u2019s comments underline a troubling trend in which people are using tools like ChatGPT as a crutch and a replacement for human connection.<\/p>\n

In the video, she called the tool her \u201cfrenemy\u201d and \u201ctoxic friend\u201d that is \u201cbecoming my therapist [telling] me why I need to believe in myself after they got the answer wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kardashian also admitted to frequently complaining about ChatGPT to her friends.<\/p>\n

\u201cI screenshot all the time and send it to my group chat, like, \u2018Can you believe this b***h is talking to me like this? This is insane!\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

While Kardashian seemingly understands ChatGPT\u2019s weaknesses, many people have been sent into potentially dangerous mental health spirals<\/a> in a phenomenon increasingly referred to as \u201cAI psychosis<\/a>\u201d by mental health professionals. In a worst-case scenario, that kind of infatuation has already led to numerous suicides, particularly among teens<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, the stakes aren\u2019t nearly as high for Kardashian \u2014 who, in a worst case scenario, is simply facing personal embarrassment if she fails to pass the bar exam.<\/p>\n

But her frustrations with ChatGPT while learning to become a lawyer are the perfect illustration of the tech\u2019s drawbacks \u2014 and a showcase of why certain investors are getting nervous<\/a>.<\/p>\n
