Following the release of thousands of deceased sex criminal Jefferey Epstein\u2019s emails<\/a> by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, it came to light that Larry Summers, former US Treasury Secretary and Harvard Economist, was deeply involved in the arch-pedophile\u2019s affairs. But Summers isn\u2019t just a top-level economist \u2014 he\u2019s also a shareholder in the massive AI company OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT and Sora.<\/p>\n

Unlike other problematic OpenAI investors<\/a>, Summers is a top dog at OpenAI, holding a spot on the board of directors. <\/p>\n

At least, he used to; earlier today, Summers announced he was stepping down from his role with the company.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn line with my announcement to step away from my public commitments, I have also decided to resign from the board of OpenAI,\u201d he told the company in a statement. \u201cI am grateful for the opportunity to have served, excited about the potential of the company and look forward to following their progress.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a separate statement to Axios<\/em><\/a>, OpenAI confirmed that the resignation was moving forward, adding that \u201cwe appreciate his many contributions and the perspective he brought to the Board.\u201d<\/p>\n

Summers isn\u2019t any old OpenAI investor, and he likewise wasn\u2019t merely an acquaintance to Epstein. In one 2018 email, Epstein described himself as Summers\u2019 \u201cwing man.\u201d The context was somehow even worse, as the student newspaper the Harvard Crimson <\/a><\/em>reported<\/a>, because the economist was asking Epstein for advice as he pursued a relationship with someone he was mentoring \u2014 despite having been married since 2005 \u2014 in a staggeringly unethical breach of academic norms.<\/p>\n

As Summers fretted that the woman he was teaching valued his professional insights more than his personal acumen, Epstein told him \u201cshe is doomed to be with you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThink for now I\u2019m going nowhere with her except economics mentor,\u201d Summers told Epstein at the time. Later in 2019, as tensions seemed to flare in Summers\u2019 situationship, he wrote to Epstein that \u201cshe must be very confused or maybe wants to cut me off but wants professional connection a lot and so holds to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s already begining [sic] to sound needy \"\ud83d\ude42\" nice,\u201d Epstein replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have great regrets in my life,\u201d Summers told the Crimson<\/em> in a statement. \u201cAs I have said before, my association with Jeffrey Epstein was a major error of judgement.\u201d<\/p>\n
