I was also the guitar player for The Crowd Pleasers, my elementary school band in 1965.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Current city<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Austin, Texas<\/p>\n<p><strong>Really want to be in<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0I love living in Austin because I like hot weather and early morning bike rides. Also, we now have a terrific assortment of Japanese restaurants. But my dream city would be Estes Park, Colorado, as I love hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park. Lack of Japanese restaurants will keep it a dream.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Excited about<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0I\u2019m excited about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.buttholesurfers.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Butthole Surfers<\/a>\u00a0<em>Live at the Leather Fly<\/em>\u00a0album out in May, and an upcoming documentary movie about my band coming out soon. I attended a premier screening of the documentary at SXSW last month, and the audience response was enthusiastic.\u00a0There was clapping and cheering and, towards the end, crying.<\/p>\n<p><strong>My current music collection has a lot of<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Wire, Leather Nun, Buzzcocks, Undertones, Ian Dury and the Blockheads, and Ramones.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And a little bit of<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Big band music from the 40\u2019s. It\u2019s hard to imagine that there was a time when so many musicians played so great all at the same time. I was introduced to Glenn Miller when I played in stage band in high school.\u00a0\u201cIn The Mood\u201d was one of my favorite songs to play.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Preferred format<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0I do Spotify for my music enjoyment. To be honest, I don\u2019t listen to music much anymore unless I\u2019m working on it. Their\u00a0<em>Live Album<\/em>\u00a0was identical to the show that I saw.\u00a0I learned how to play the guitar for the entire double album when I was 15. Jerry Harrison\u2019s keyboards and synthesizers are out of this world. On top of it all is amazing poetry sung in a strange voice.\u00a0This album is peak Talking Heads. \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3\">3<\/h2>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-undertones-the-undertones\"><strong><em>The Undertones<\/em>, The Undertones<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1290\" height=\"1242\" src=\"https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/05\/The-Undertones-The-Undertones-1290x1242.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-463836\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/05\/The-Undertones-The-Undertones-1290x1242.png 1290w, https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/05\/The-Undertones-The-Undertones-340x327.png 340w, https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/05\/The-Undertones-The-Undertones-768x739.png 768w, https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/05\/The-Undertones-The-Undertones-498x479.png 498w, https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/05\/The-Undertones-The-Undertones.png 1394w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1290px) 100vw, 1290px\"><\/figure>\n<p>It\u2019s more strange vocals.\u00a0Feargal Sharkey is like a fun version of Jello Biafra. There is a kinda retro appeal to their song style. I just love the production on that album, it\u2019s so pure and fun to listen to.\u00a0They were a fun punk band, which is a rare thing. The guitars sound just right, and I just want to hug Feargal Sharkey.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4\">4<\/h2>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-154-wire\"><strong><em>154<\/em>, Wire<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1290\" height=\"1242\" src=\"https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/05\/154-Wire-1290x1242.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-463839\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/05\/154-Wire-1290x1242.png 1290w, https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/05\/154-Wire-340x327.png 340w, https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/05\/154-Wire-768x739.png 768w, https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/05\/154-Wire-498x479.png 498w, https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/05\/154-Wire.png 1494w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1290px) 100vw, 1290px\"><\/figure>\n<p>All of Wire\u2019s albums are fantastic.\u00a0<em>154<\/em>\u00a0was Wire at their peak.\u00a0The song \u201cMap Ref. 41\u00b0N 93\u00b0W 3:36\u201d is one of my all-time favorite songs by anyone. It was lounge music for punk rockers.
