No cause was provided.<\/p>\n<p>Mounfield\u2019s bass work helped propel the Stone Roses out of the post-Smiths-era Manchester, England, several years before the Britpop revolution made superstars out of Oasis, Blur and the Verve. He was back on bass when the Roses reunited in 2012 and played more than 50 shows, including at the Coachella festival. A shorter reunion followed in 2016, with the group\u2019s final gig coming June 24, 2017, in Glasgow.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"998\" height=\"998\" src=\"https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/11\/Mani-Mounfield.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-648774\" style=\"width:462px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/11\/Mani-Mounfield.jpg 998w, https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/11\/Mani-Mounfield-340x340.jpg 340w, https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/11\/Mani-Mounfield-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/11\/Mani-Mounfield-498x498.jpg 498w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 998px) 100vw, 998px\"><\/figure>\n<p>Mounfield later formed the short-lived supergroup Freebass with fellow six-string slappers Andy Rourke of the Smiths and Peter Hook of Joy Division and New Order. He nodded to his Manchester roots during a cameo in the 2002 film <em>24 Hour Party People<\/em>, which dramatized the city\u2019s evolution as a music hotbed.<\/p>\n<p>Just last week, Mounfield announced plans for an extensive U.K. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.awaywithmedia.com\/tours\/mani\" target=\"_blank\">speaking tour<\/a> about his time in the Roses and Primal Scream, which was to begin Sept. 16 in Leamington Spa. His wife, Imelda, passed away in 2023 from cancer. The couple had twin boys in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m absolutely gutted to hear the news about Mani, who I have always loved and always will love, deeply and forever,\u201d wrote Echo &amp; the Bunnymen\u2019s Ian McCulloch <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Bunnymen\/status\/1991538426370298025?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1991538426370298025%7Ctwgr%5Ec09cee0aa8120a5cccb04f2163a354b45bbeb4b9%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nme.com%2Fnews%2Fmusic%2Ftributes-paid-after-death-of-stone-roses-icon-mani-age-63-3910631\" target=\"_blank\">on X<\/a>. \u201cLike a brother. I am in shock to be honest.
