Joe Rogan absolutely loves AI-generated music. <\/p>\n

For the past few months, the podcaster has been drooling like a pig at its slop trough over AI-generated covers of the rapper 50 Cent, finding literally any excuse to play them for his guests, including such luminaries as Carrot Top<\/a> and Andrew Schulz<\/a>. It\u2019s gotten so out of his hand that his some of his fans have started fuming about how he keeps bring the AI covers up<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou gotta hear this,\u201d Rogan said on one occasion. \u201cIt\u2019s f*cking good <\/em>dude,\u201d he said on another. It\u2019s the kind of enthusiastic endorsement you might hear from a friend who\u2019s showing you a \u201csuper underrated\u201d band that \u201cnobody knows about\u201d yet, but Rogan is giving it for AI slop.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Most of the time, the guests nod along or even share some of Rogan\u2019s enthusiasm, but not all of them.<\/p>\n

When Rogan tried to broach AI music with actress Katee Sackhoff during an interview<\/a> in October, he got a little pushback \u2014 and his reaction during the exchange, which recently made rounds online<\/a>, was telling.<\/p>\n

First, Rogan half jokingly suggested that AI could make better music than humans, and Sackhoff wasn\u2019t having any of it.<\/p>\n

\u201cStop it. It will never be better if AI makes the music,\u201d the \u201cBattlestar Galactica\u201d and \u201cLongmire\u201d actress said. \u201cYou just broke my soul.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAI is making some really good music,\u201d Rogan wheedled.<\/p>\n

Sackhoff grinned. \u201cIt\u2019s also making some great podcasts,\u201d she countered.<\/p>\n

Rogan\u2019s rambling stopped dead in its tracks. <\/p>\n

\u201cI \u2014\u201d he stuttered. \u201cI don\u2019t know about that,\u201d he said, suddenly sounding very skeptical of AI tech, before abruptly changing the topic.<\/p>\n

Such is the hypocrisy of your average AI bro. It\u2019s all fun and games watching the tech plunder the arts and put people out of jobs \u2014 until it threatens to replace you<\/em>, apparently.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rogan was not to be deterred, however. He later had Sackhoff to listen to one of his favorite songs: an AI\u2019s take on what a \u201csoul cover\u201d of 50 Cent\u2019s track \u201cWhat Up Gangsta\u201d would sound like. According to Rogan, the AI version turned out \u201cbetter than the original.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sackhoff, although impressed by the tech, wasn\u2019t so sure. \u201cI would so much rather see that in person,\u201d she said, adding that the AI cover \u201crobbed\u201d the rapper of the opportunity to make a track in a similar style.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know what you\u2019re saying, but this is my point. My point is that it tricks me and I know the trick,\u201d Rogan replied. \u201cI know it\u2019s a trick, and I don\u2019t care.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rogan, in sum, is admitting to being self-aware enough to know that he\u2019s getting served soulless slop, but doesn\u2019t have standards high enough to preclude him from enjoying it anyway.<\/p>\n

This wasn\u2019t the only time a guest roasted him for his hard-on for AI parody tunes. He also brought up the \u201cWhat Up Gangsta\u201d cover with former professor of evolutionary biology turned podcaster Bret Weinstein in an episode last month<\/a>, but didn\u2019t get very far.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s fucking good,\u201d Rogan said of the AI song.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt depends what you mean by good,\u201d Weinstein replied, grimacing.<\/p>\n
