{"id":7657,"date":"2025-12-26T19:44:20","date_gmt":"2025-12-26T19:44:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/musictechohio.online\/site\/perry-bamonte-the-cure-obit\/"},"modified":"2025-12-26T19:44:20","modified_gmt":"2025-12-26T19:44:20","slug":"perry-bamonte-the-cure-obit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/musictechohio.online\/site\/perry-bamonte-the-cure-obit\/","title":{"rendered":"Longtime Cure Guitarist Perry Bamonte Dies"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2024\/06\/GettyImages-85245940.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"665\" alt=\"The Cure\"><figcaption>The Cure&#8217;s Perry Bamonte, Simon Gallup and Robert Smith in 1992 (photo: Bob King \/ Redferns).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Longtime the Cure guitarist\/keyboardist Perry Bamonte, who played on such iconic albums as 1992\u2019s <em>Wish<\/em> and was onstage with the U.K. band for nearly 500 shows over the past 35 years, has died at the age of 65 after a short illness.<\/p>\n<p>A London native, the left-handed player had a brief stint working in a London furniture store before catching on the Cure\u2019s road crew in 1984 with the encouragement of his brother Daryl, who at the time was their tour manager. From there, he served both as frontman Robert Smith\u2019s personal assistant and guitar tech, and when keyboardist Roger O\u2019Donnell exited the band in 1990, he joined as a full performing member.<\/p>\n<p>More from Spin:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.spin.com\/2025\/12\/5-albums-i-cant-live-without-rome-ramirez\/\">5 Albums I Can\u2019t Live Without:\u00a0Rome Ramirez<\/a>\n\t\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.spin.com\/2025\/12\/dam-trio-revive-bowies-berlin-trilogy-in-berlin\/\">Old Career in an Old Town<\/a>\n\t\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.spin.com\/2025\/12\/vowws-fill-their-house-with-an-army-of-dark-emotions\/\">VOWWS Fill Their House With an Army of Dark Emotions<\/a>\n\t\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>His contributions later enlivened a host of beloved <em>Wish <\/em>songs, including six-string bass work on \u201cFriday I\u2019m in Love\u201d and \u201cA Letter to Elise.\u201d In that era, he performed on the live albums <em>Paris<\/em> and <em>Show<\/em>, plus the studio efforts <em>Wild Mood Swings<\/em>, <em>Bloodflowers<\/em> and a 2004 self-titled affair. Photography also played a substantial role in Bamonte\u2019s creative vision, as he often snapped stunning images of the Cure\u2019s journeys around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Bamonte left the Cure in 2005 and focused on a career as an illustrator, but he returned in 2022 and remained ever since. He was inducted with the band into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQuiet, intense, intuitive, constant and hugely creative, \u2018Teddy\u2019 was a warm hearted and vital part of the Cure story,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecure.com\/news\/2025\/12\/perry-archangelo-bamonte-1960-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\">the band said in a statement<\/a>. They added that the 90 shows following Bamonte\u2019s 2022 return were \u201csome of the best in the band\u2019s history, culminating with The Show of a Lost World concert in London [on Nov. 1, 2024]. Our thoughts and condolences are with all his family. He will be very greatly missed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Cure are planning an extensive European summer tour next year, beginning the first week of June with a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.spin.com\/2025\/09\/primavera-sound-2026-lineup\/\">headlining performance<\/a>\u00a0at Barcelona\u2019s Primavera Sound festival.
