{"id":7687,"date":"2025-12-28T14:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-28T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/musictechohio.online\/site\/musician-ai-canada-google\/"},"modified":"2025-12-28T14:00:00","modified_gmt":"2025-12-28T14:00:00","slug":"musician-ai-canada-google","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/musictechohio.online\/site\/musician-ai-canada-google\/","title":{"rendered":"Musician Cancelled as AI Falsely Accuses Him of Horrific Crimes"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">Who needs vicious music columnists when you live in the age of AI?<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">Apparently not Ashley MacIsaac, a Canadian fiddler, singer, and songwriter who was labeled a sex criminal by Google\u2019s AI overview.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">According <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/culture\/article-ashley-macisaac-show-cancelled-google-ai-misinformation-music-fiddler\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">to the Canadian newspaper <\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/culture\/article-ashley-macisaac-show-cancelled-google-ai-misinformation-music-fiddler\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Globe and Mail<\/a><\/em>, event organizers at the Sipekne\u2019katik First Nation, north of Halifax, canceled an upcoming performance featuring MacIsaac after Google incorrectly described him as a sex offender.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">The paper reports that the misinformation was the result of one of Google\u2019s AI summaries \u2014 brief summations it helpfully plasters <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/google-ai-overviews-still-2024\">above all other search results<\/a> \u2014 which blended the musician\u2019s biography with another person who bears the same name.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cGoogle screwed up, and it put me in a dangerous situation,\u201d MacIsaac told the paper. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">Though the AI overview has since been updated, MacIsaac explained that the situation presents a huge dilemma for him as a touring musician. For one thing, there\u2019s no telling how many other event organizers passed on hiring him because of the libelous claim, or how many potential audience members got the wrong impression, but not the correction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cPeople should be aware that they should check their online presence to see if someone else\u2019s name comes in,\u201d MacIsaac told the <em>Globe<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">After the truth came to light, the Sipekne\u2019katik First Nation issued an apology, and extended a future welcome to the musician.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cWe deeply regret the harm this error caused to your reputation, your livelihood, and your sense of personal safety,\u201d a First Nation spokesperson wrote in a letter shared with the newspaper. \u201cIt is important to us to state clearly that this situation was the result of mistaken identity caused by an AI error, not a reflection of who you are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">A representative for Google, meanwhile, said that \u201csearch, including AI Overviews is dynamic and frequently changing to show the most helpful information. When issues arise \u2014 like if our features misinterpret web content or miss some context \u2014 we use those examples to improve our systems, and may take action under our policies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">Yet as MacIsaac correctly asserts, reputational risk is a difficult thing to repair.
