\n\tLONDON \u2014 The United Kingdom\u2019s recorded music market reported an 11th consecutive year of growth following success for local artists domestically and on the global stage.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a report shared by the BPI<\/strong> (British Phonographic Institute), artists such as Olivia Dean<\/a>, Lola Young<\/a>, Sam Fender<\/a>, Central Cee<\/a> and more are credited as being crucial players in the market\u2019s bumper 2025. Massive tours for Oasis<\/a>, Coldplay<\/a> and Ed Sheeran<\/a> also saw sales for their back catalog soar as a result.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe newly-released figures show that music consumption across sales and streams increased by 4.9% annually over the past 12 months to reach a new high of 210.3 million albums (or their streamed equivalent) consumed, with 210.3 billion streams accumulated across the year. Streaming figures rose 5.5% year-on-year to make up 89.3% of consumption (2024 saw 88.8%), and sales of vinyl LPs increased for an 18th year in a row.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the Official Charts Company\u2019s end of year lists for 2025, U.K. artists feature prominently throughout. The Official Albums Chart<\/a>\u2019s best-selling album of 2025 was Taylor Swift\u2019s The Life of a Showgirl<\/em>, and releases from British artists Ed Sheeran, Oasis, Sam Fender and Olivia Dean also appear in the top 10.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tOn the Official Singles Chart<\/a>, Lola Young\u2019s \u201cMessy\u201d finishes as the second-biggest song of the year, and Olivia Dean\u2019s \u201cMan I Need\u201d ends the year at No. 9. Alex Warren\u2019s \u201cOrdinary\u201d \u2013 which ruled the Official Singles Chart for 13 weeks \u2013 takes the top spot of the year-end chart.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe vinyl revival continued in 2025 with the market growing 13.3% year-on-year to 7.6 million, compared to 9.1% annual growth in 2024. Six of the ten biggest-selling vinyl titles of the year were released in the last two years, led by Swift\u2019s The Life Of A Showgirl<\/em>, which shifted over 147,000 units, the most vinyl LPs sold of a release in a calendar year since the Official Charts Company launched in 1994.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tPhysical releases as a whole \u2013 across vinyl LPs, CDs, cassettes and more \u2013 saw a 1.4% rise year-on-year, the second consecutive year of growth after 19 years of decline. Sales from physical formats played a crucial role in landing a No. 1 on the Official Albums Chart, with 34 of the 43 overall chart-topping LPs doing so with a majority of physical sales in their opening week. Playboi Carti\u2019s Music <\/em>was the only album to hit the top spot with no physical formats available.<\/p>\n

\n\tTwenty-seven albums by U.K. artists topped the Official Albums Chart in 2025 with a number of acts doing so more than once. Recent Billboard U.K.<\/a><\/em> cover star Yungblud scored two chart-toppers with Idols<\/em> and One More Time<\/em>, a collaborative EP with Aerosmith, as did Ed Sheeran with \u2013 +-=\u00f7x (Tour Collection)<\/em> and Play<\/em>, and Elton John with greatest hits collection Diamonds<\/em> and Brandi Carlile collaboration Who Believes in Angels?<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tU.K. artists also performed strongly in the nominations for the 2026 Grammys<\/a>. Olivia Dean and Lola Young appear in the best new artist category, and contemporary acts such as Wet Leg, FKA twigs, FLO, Fred again.., PinkPantheress, Skepta, Sleep Token, Yungblud will compete in their respective genre fields.<\/p>\n
