They launched into \u201cSpider (Kidsmoke)\u201d and then \u201cWishful Thinking,\u201d from the band\u2019s 2004 Grammy winning <em>A Ghost Is Born<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The band played some newer songs, such as \u201cEvicted\u201d from 2023\u2019s <em>Cousins<\/em> and \u201cBird Without a Tail\/Base of My Skull\u201d off of 2022\u2019s <em>Cruel Country<\/em>. But they knew everyone was there to see Wilco play their classic, older stuff, which Tweedy acknowledged as he nonchalantly introduced the more recent material. Before they played the next two songs\u2014\u201cBox Full of Letters,\u201d from the group\u2019s first album, 1995\u2019s <em>A.M<\/em>., and \u201cAnnihilation,\u201d from their 2024 EP <em>Hot Sun Cool Shroud <\/em>\u2014 Tweedy told the audience that they had been playing them together lately to show their artistic growth over the years. \u201cThe capo goes from here to here. The Beatles didn\u2019t do that,\u201d he said, referring to the small device on the fretboard of a guitar that changes the pitch of the instrument.<\/p>\n<p>Tweedy, noting how nice it was to be back in Chattanooga, shared a story about passing through on a family road trip to Florida when he was 8 or 9 and visiting one of the city\u2019s most famous tourist attractions, Lookout Mountain. \u201cI don\u2019t remember Florida, but I remember Chattanooga.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/05\/Wilco-PhotoCredit_Peter-Crosby_3.jpg\" alt=\"(Credit: Peter Crosby)\" class=\"wp-image-464105\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/05\/Wilco-PhotoCredit_Peter-Crosby_3.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/05\/Wilco-PhotoCredit_Peter-Crosby_3-340x227.jpg 340w, https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/05\/Wilco-PhotoCredit_Peter-Crosby_3-240x160.jpg 240w, https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/05\/Wilco-PhotoCredit_Peter-Crosby_3-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.spin.com\/files\/2025\/05\/Wilco-PhotoCredit_Peter-Crosby_3-498x332.jpg 498w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">(Credit: Peter Crosby)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Throughout the show, Tweedy took note of how far along we were in the evening. \u201cWe\u2019re getting close to the end,\u201d he said. The audience, unhappy with that, heartily booed, to which he responded, \u201cI mean in general.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When the lights did go down and the band waved goodbye, we knew there would be an encore. They reemerged to play four songs, starting with \u201cCalifornia Stars\u201d from their 2001 collaboration with Billy Bragg, <em>Mermaid Avenue<\/em>. Ensuring everyone that the show was finally over this time, Tweedy announced, \u201cOkay this is it!\u201d and ended with the rousing \u201cI Got You (At the End of the Century)\u201d from <em>Being There<\/em>.
