full-length album, <em>Simple Math<\/em>, which was recorded in 2010 and released via Favorite Gentlemen in 2011, when it debuted in the top 10 on <em>Billboard<\/em>\u2018s Top Rock Albums and Top Alternative Albums charts. He began touring with them starting that year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe entire Manchester Orchestra family has been devastated by the sudden passing of our brother, Timothy Very,\u201d the band wrote in a statement <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/manchesterorchestra\/p\/DUwOL2ekXBU\/?hl=en\">on Instagram<\/a> Saturday evening. \u201cThe most beloved human being any of us were lucky enough to know in this life. We\u2019ve all been dreading sharing this news as we are all still in absolute disbelief.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cTim was instantly likable and interacted with everyone he met with kindness and warmth. His laugh was infectious and he immediately made people feel invited and encouraged. His humor and energy were the very foundation that held together the entire MO universe. Strangers quickly became friends and friends became family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cHe had an undeniable light that was only matched by his dedication and love for the craft that he was clearly put on earth to do. No words can ever do him justice. Please know, if you are someone who loved Tim, he loved you too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe only thing that Tim loved more than creating music was being with his family. You\u2019d be pressed to find a more joyful dad.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe love you Tim, thank you for loving us. You are a force of positivity that will be a constant presence in the rest of our days,\u201d Manchester Orchestra\u2019s note said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tVery officially started working with the group \u2014 originally formed by frontman Andy Hull in the suburbs of Atlanta, Ga., in 2004 \u2014 upon former drummer Jeremiah Edmond\u2019s departure in 2010.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tVery\u2019s first live performance with Manchester Orchestra was in Camden, London, in 2011 on the U.K. leg of the band\u2019s tour in support of <em>Simple Math<\/em>. During an interview the following day with <em>Alter the Press<\/em>, he said, \u201cI threw up during it. It\u2019s been awesome. I can talk about it for hours, but I\u2019ll just say this is what I\u2019ve always wanted to do and these are guys I\u2019ve known for a long time. It\u2019s the best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHe stayed with the band through the time of his death, appearing on the albums <em>Cope<\/em>\/acoustic companion <em>Hope<\/em> (2014),<em> A Black Mile to the Surface<\/em> (2017) and <em>The Million Masks of God<\/em> (2021), and the EP <em>The Valley of Vision <\/em>(2023). [Manchester Orchestra has a live project, <em>Union Chapel (London, England)<\/em>, set to be released via Loma Vista on March 20, 2026. The set was recorded in 2023, during a special three-night residency at the historic church.]\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI guess I would like to describe myself as a songwriter\u2019s drummer,\u201d Very said in an episode of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/big-fat-five-tim-very-of-manchester-orchestras-top-5\/id1487234690?i=1000551971221\">podcast <em>Drummers on Drumming<\/em><\/a> in 2022. \u201cI\u2019d like to think that after doing this for 20 years or so, whatever it\u2019s been at this point, that I\u2019m bringing something to the table that isn\u2019t just drums and grooves and all that, but it\u2019s understanding what a song should have, or could have in it, to hopefully enhance it or hopefully add something \u2014 a flavor, a feel to it \u2026 Leaving your mark on a song and feeling like, \u2018Man, that\u2019s better \u2019cause I played on it,\u2019 that\u2019s kind of what I\u2019m always sort of circling around and hoping to reach: having an impact on a song that\u2019s just that right thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tVery, whose father is also a drummer, began playing the drums himself as a teen in Pensacola, Fla., when a neighbor spotted one of his dad\u2019s unused drum sets and asked why he wasn\u2019t playing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cMy dad heard me banging on them and he came down and set \u2019em up the right way,\u201d he recalled of that day. \u201cThat really kind of started the whole path. I wasn\u2019t one of those guys that got to start playing when I was like six years old, got lessons out the gate. It took me a little while to kind of find my identity. I instantly knew that this was something I was going to be doing for a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDave Grohl was a huge influence on Very\u2019s drumming, he said, noting that it was Nirvana\u2019s heyday in the \u201990s when he started on the instrument. \u201cI instantly jumped in and started trying to learn Nirvana songs, which I think is a killer place to start as a drummer because he [Grohl] writes attainable drum parts, but they\u2019re the perfect parts for songs. It\u2019s a great introduction on how, what I hope to do is service a song, kind of enhance it \u2014 he still gets to have his fun, but he\u2019s doing the right thing for the song.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIt sounds so trite when you\u2019re young, when people are like, \u2018Believe in your dreams!\u2019 But some of that is true,\u201d Very said more recently, in a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/andyprince\/reel\/DN3zr43QhHl\/\">podcast clip<\/a> on how he got his start in music that was published on <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.patreon.com\/ManchesterOrchestra\">Manchester Orchestra\u2019s Patreon<\/a> in July 2025. \u201cIf you actually believe in yourself and are willing to just bite down on the dream and go like, man, I\u2019m gonna hang in here. Whatever it is, whatever you\u2019re doing out there \u2014 it doesn\u2019t have to just be music \u2014 this can go across the board for anything. You can make it happen.
