{"id":8969,"date":"2026-02-20T19:21:48","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T19:21:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/musictechohio.online\/site\/jack-dorsey-block-falling-apart-ai\/"},"modified":"2026-02-20T19:21:48","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T19:21:48","slug":"jack-dorsey-block-falling-apart-ai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/musictechohio.online\/site\/jack-dorsey-block-falling-apart-ai\/","title":{"rendered":"Jack Dorsey\u2019s New Company Falling Apart as It Forces Employees to Use AI"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">Twitter founder Jack Dorsey is running into some serious issues while overhauling his financial services company, Block.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">Earlier this month, the company started laying off its staff as part of what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-02-07\/dorsey-s-block-cutting-up-to-10-of-staff-in-efficiency-push\"><em>Bloomberg<\/em> characterized<\/a> as an \u201cefficiency push,\u201d potentially affecting up to ten percent of the company\u2019s workforce.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">It\u2019s been a painful, drawn-out process that could drag on for weeks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/inside-rolling-layoffs-jack-dorsey-block\/\">sources told <em>Wired<\/em><\/a>, triggering major anxiety over job security.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cWe don\u2019t yet know if our livelihoods will be affected, and this makes it incredibly hard to make major life choices without knowing if we still have a job next week,\u201d an employee said during a recent all-hands meeting, as quoted by <em>Wired<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cMorale is probably the worst I\u2019ve felt in four years,\u201d another employee wrote. \u201cThe overarching culture at Block is crumbling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">The comments highlight persistent concerns being felt by many workers as generative AI continues to be cited by executives as they cut headcounts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">For Dorsey, AI has clearly been top of mind. Block staffers are now obligated to use AI, an order that has led to frustration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cTop-down mandates to use large language models are crazy,\u201d one employee told <em>Wired<\/em>. \u201cIf the tool were good, we\u2019d all just use it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">They\u2019re also required to send weekly update emails to him, echoing Elon Musk\u2019s DOGE requirement for federal staffers to summarize five weekly achievements in emails. (The requirement was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TuQ1lxlHa6A\" rel=\"nofollow\">mostly ignored<\/a>, months before DOGE <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/government-undo-elon-musk-doge-damage\">largely crumbled<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">Dorsey then reportedly uses generative AI to summarize his staffers\u2019 emails. During the all-hands meeting, he noted that \u201cperformance anxiety\u201d and \u201cwidespread concerns about layoffs\u201d were clearly vexing staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">Dorsey seemingly did little to address these anxieties, accusing fired staffers of \u201cphoning it in.\u201d Block\u2019s engineering lead, Arnaud Weber, also said that the firings were performance-related.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">The company\u2019s woes are symptomatic of a familiar story playing out at many other tech companies. Workers are facing immense pressure as their employers implement AI at all costs, forcing them to adopt the tech whether they like it or not.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">Researchers have found that the tech isn\u2019t reducing workloads at all, <a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2026\/02\/ai-doesnt-reduce-work-it-intensifies-it\">but intensifying them instead<\/a>, a concerning trend that\u2019s already leading to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2026\/02\/09\/the-first-signs-of-burnout-are-coming-from-the-people-who-embrace-ai-the-most\/\">AI burnout<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">The psychological effects also have experts worried.
