With her two medals in tow, the Olympian first told Cohen about her decision to skate to Donna Summer\u2019s<\/a> \u201cMacArthur Park.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was recommended by someone to listen to that song,\u201d Liu says. \u201cThen I found a 16-minute suite version, and it took it to another level.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTake it to another level, it did: Liu\u2019s freestyle skate to Summer\u2019s song brought her from third place in the competition to the gold in women\u2019s individual figure skating. On top of winning with the track, Liu also helped boost it to the top of the Billboard<\/em>\u2019s Dance Digital Song Sales chart<\/a>, giving Summer her fourth posthumous No. 1.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMacArthur Park\u201d isn\u2019t the only track<\/a> Liu\u2019s skating helped chart: \u201cStateside\u201d by PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson saw an 88% increase in streams the day after Liu used it for her closing gala performance. Meanwhile, Laufey\u2019s \u201cPromise\u201d scored 1.3 million streams in the four days after Liu skated to it for her short program set.<\/p>\n

\n\tCohen and Liu continued the music conversation, with the skater sharing the top five songs she hopes to skate to next. The runner-ups were \u201cFire in My Heart\u201d by Escape From New York, Billie Eilish<\/a>\u2018s Billboard Hot 100<\/a> No. 12 hit \u201cChihiro,\u201d Tchaikovsky\u2019s classic \u201cSwan Lake,\u201d and \u201cStar\u201d by Mitski<\/a>. Liu\u2019s top choice was \u201cCapable of Love,\u201d another PinkPantheress track.<\/p>\n

\n\tLiu then excitedly shared with Cohen that she heard from PinkPantheress after her \u201cStateside\u201d performance saying, \u201cShe\u2019s so nice.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tLiu famously returned to competitive skating this year after stepping away from the sport at 16 years old in 2022. When she decided to make her comeback, she gave her coach a list of conditions<\/a> that must be met for her return. One of them was that she gets to choose her own music. It won\u2019t be a surprise if we hear a few more PinkPantheress tracks at the 2030 Winter Olympics.<\/p>\n
