{"id":9415,"date":"2026-03-13T16:06:37","date_gmt":"2026-03-13T16:06:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/musictechohio.online\/site\/elon-musk-screwed-up-xai-rebuilding\/"},"modified":"2026-03-13T16:06:37","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T16:06:37","slug":"elon-musk-screwed-up-xai-rebuilding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/musictechohio.online\/site\/elon-musk-screwed-up-xai-rebuilding\/","title":{"rendered":"Elon Musk Says He\u2019s Epically Screwed Up at xAI, Is Rebuilding \u201cFrom the Foundations\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">Besides headlines about the <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/artificial-intelligence\/cofounders-fleeing-elon-musk-xai\">majority of original cofounders fleeing the company<\/a>, Elon Musk\u2019s AI startup xAI has struggled to gain much media attention as of late \u2014 particularly as competitor Anthropic\u2019s high-profile spat with the Pentagon continues to develop.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">The Grok chatbot maker, which has been <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/artificial-intelligence\/live-grok-nonconsensual-images\">reeling<\/a> from a flood of deepfake smut and child sexual abuse material (CSAM) following a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aol.com\/articles\/inside-grok-pivot-porn-bid-000520784.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pivot to porn<\/a>,\u201d continues to grapple for relevancy. Following its <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/future-society\/elon-musk-merge-spacex-xai\">merger with Musk\u2019s SpaceX<\/a> last month, even more of the company\u2019s 12 cofounders announced they would be leaving the company on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cLast day at xAI,\u201d cofounder and image generation product lead Guodong Zhang <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Guodzh\/status\/2032285406964957333\" rel=\"nofollow\">tweeted<\/a>. \u201cWild journey past three years but excited about next chapter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">As of a month ago, half of xAI\u2019s founding team of 12 individuals had resigned. As of today, that number has grown to nine, meaning that a mere three are left, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-03-13\/musk-pledges-to-rebuild-xai-as-another-co-founder-departs\"><em>Bloomberg<\/em> points out<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">In the face of it all, Musk is admitting that the company is in deep trouble \u2014 and in need of a deep overhaul.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cxAI was not built right first time around, so is being rebuilt from the foundations up,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/elonmusk\/status\/2032201568335044978\" rel=\"nofollow\">tweeted Thursday afternoon<\/a>. \u201cSame thing happened with Tesla.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">It could also be a sign that Musk is willing to take his foot off the gas as his enterprises continue to grow intertwined. On Thursday, his EV maker gained government clearance to convert its xAI investment into a small stake in SpaceX, formalizing business ties, as <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-03-12\/tesla-converts-xai-investment-into-spacex-stake-ahead-of-ipo\">Bloomberg <\/a><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-03-12\/tesla-converts-xai-investment-into-spacex-stake-ahead-of-ipo\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">SpaceX is expected to go public later this year at a staggering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/02\/03\/musk-xai-spacex-biggest-merger-ever.html\">valuation of $1.25 trillion<\/a>, which could bring plenty of scrutiny over xAI\u2019s operations \u2014 and its persistent CSAM problem, which has already drawn attention <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2026\/01\/16\/xai-california-elon-musk-deepfakes-children-grok\">from lawmakers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">In the early morning hours of Friday, Musk <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/elonmusk\/status\/2032341856944865487\" rel=\"nofollow\">followed up<\/a>, saying that he was going back to the well to fill the many empty roles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cMany talented people over the past few years were declined an offer or even an interview [at xAI],\u201d he wrote. \u201cMy apologies. \u201c[xAI\u2019s head of talent, Baris Akis] and I are going through the company interview history and reaching back out to promising candidates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">The reshuffling had many taken aback.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cIt\u2019s that bad eh,\u201d YouTuber Zack \u201cJerry Rig Everything\u201d Nelson <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ZacksJerryRig\/status\/2032345695324422615\" rel=\"nofollow\">responded<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">In an apparent effort to double down on AI coding, Musk <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/milichab\/status\/2032176871517934070\" rel=\"nofollow\">hired two senior employees<\/a> from AI coding startup Cursor, which is itself rumored to be in talks for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-03-12\/ai-coding-startup-cursor-in-talks-for-about-50-billion-valuation\">valuation of $50 billion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">Coding with the help of AI has quickly become a major talking point in Silicon Valley, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/03\/12\/magazine\/ai-coding-programming-jobs-claude-chatgpt.html\">emerging as a promising area of growth<\/a>. Even early leader OpenAI has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/openai-codex-race-claude-code\/\">trying to catch up with Anthropic\u2019s Claude Code<\/a>, which has made major strides in winning over enterprise clients.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">xAI\u2019s Grok, however, appears to have slid to a distant third.
