Introducing the new Uncut: Pulp, a free Pulp-curated CD, Tom Petty, Genesis, Edwyn Collins and more

At time of writing, Tom Pinnock, Sam Richards and Mark Beaumont have just made it back from this year’s End Of The Road festival, where they’ve been braving the elements to bring you regular reports over on our website. As you might have noticed from the chatter on our socials, Tom hosted our regular Q&As, which this year were with Matt Berninger, Kristin Hersh and Christopher Owens. All in all, a very busy weekend – so huge thanks to all three of them for all their hard work (and to Marc Jones for all the behind-the-scenes support).

All in all, a very busy weekend – so huge thanks to all three of them for all their hard work (and to Marc Jones for all the behind-the-scenes support).

End Of The Road, of course, marks the end of the festival season – of which there were many highlights, from Neil Young in a field beside the sea in Copenhagen to Pulp at Glastonbury, celebrating 30 years since their triumphant headline slot on the Pyramid Stage. In many ways, 2025 has been Pulp’s year: a new (No 1) album, a world tour, a handsome reissue for Different Class due next month and now their first Uncut cover. You can dig into their 40 greatest songs – as chosen by Jarvis, Nick, Mark and Candida – on page 86.

“Enthusiasm never hurt anybody, really…”

Not for the first time, I’m a little uncertain where to direct you next – there’s so much good stuff in this issue – but do please check out Brian Howe’s profile of rising indie-Americana stars Wednesday, Alastair McKay’s showstopping interview with Millie Jackson and Jon Dale’s celebration of visionary frontman Tim Smith and the band he led until his death, Cardiacs. There’s catchups with Robert Plant, Jeff Tweedy, Neko Case and plenty more, as you’d imagine.

I’ll leave you, at any rate, with some wise words from Plant that pretty much sum up our own approach as we strive to bring you the very best music out there: “Enthusiasm never hurt anybody, really. It’s just all constantly in motion.”

See you next month. In the meantime, don’t forget to send us your thoughts on this issue or pretty much anything else to do with music: letters@uncut.co.uk.
