Fresh off a series of residencies at the Blue Note New York and Los Angeles where she showed off her flute skills in intimate settings, Lizzo has penned her debut children’s book, the flute-themed Lil Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’. The project is illustrated by Mark Pett and is due Sept. 8 from Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers.
Its story centers around “a bubbly little girl who just wants to belong” in her adventures with “a smart and brassy flute who can’t find her tune.” Based on Lizzo’s own experiences as a young person, their adventures take them to the ocean, outer space and the jungle. The book will include a QR code unlocking an original Lizzo song written especially for Lil Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’.

“When I was young, I struggled to fit in but playing the flute helped me find my voice,” she says. “I want this book to teach every young person out there that your passion can give you purpose, belonging, and lead you on a journey to fulfill your wildest dreams. This book means so much to me and I can’t wait for everyone to enter the world of Lil Lizzo and Sasha B. Flootin’.”
Adds Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers VP/editorial director Kendra Levin, “her debut picture book is a perfect embodiment of the message that all her work has been about and that has inspired so many people—that you have a voice, you have worth and you can change the world by radically loving and accepting yourself.”
Also on tap for Lizzo is an appearance at the Netflix Is a Joke festival in Los Angeles on May 7, when she’ll welcome Eric André, Nikki Glaser, Dulce Sloan, Met Stalter and Luenell for a comedy showcase at the Greek Theatre. The artist appeared on Saturday Night Live in April 2025 ahead of the planned release of her next album, Love in Real Life, but it has yet to see the light of day.
